MIAMI — The Coast Guard, along with the Royal Bahamas Defense Force rescued two overdue boaters approximately 22 miles north of Freeport, Bahamas Thursday.

Rescued were Sasha McPhee, 37, and Jerome Burrows, 37, both from the Bahamas.

At approximately 8 p.m., a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 airplane crew located the two boaters anchored, waving their hands and shooting flares approximately 22 miles north of Freeport, Bahamas. Members of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force arrived on scene, embarked the two people and transferred them to shore with no reported injuries.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report from the brother-in-law of Burrows stating the two were overdue aboard a 29-foot yacht. The yacht had reportedly left Stuart, Florida, Wednesday at approximately 9:30 a.m., and were scheduled to arrive in West End, Bahamas later that day.
