MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. — Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay personnel hosted an annual open house event at the historic Coast Guard boat house in Samoa, Saturday.
The event featured a search-and-rescue demonstration, tours of Station Humboldt Bay, Coast Guard rescue boats, Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay and CAL FIRE helicopters, and other law enforcement vehicles.
Coast Guard members spoke with attendees about the Coast Guard’s many missions in the area, provided general boating safety tips and demonstrated how the Coast Guard helps mariners operating in the region.
“Events like this help us to better connect with our community and local law enforcement agencies,” said Lt. Audra Forteza, a Sector Humboldt Bay pilot. “We enjoy being able to show everyone what we do on a daily basis and letting them know how much we appreciate their support.”
Coast Guard Station Humboldt Bay’s Open House is one of several events held in honor of Eureka’s Coast Guard City Days that commemorate Eureka’s designation as an official Coast Guard City.
