Coast Guard medevacs 65-year-old woman 50 miles east of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 65-year-old woman Thursday from a cruise ship 50 miles east of Charleston.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard's 7th District Command Center received a call from a crewmember aboard the cruise ship, Veendam, stating a passenger was suffering from lower leg pain.

Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston arrived on scene at 7:31 p.m., hoisted the passenger and transported her to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 Hercules aircraft also launched to support communications coverage.
