Coast Guard assists 4 on disabled vessel near Freeport, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard assisted four boaters after their vessel became disabled approximately 23 miles offshore from Freeport, Texas, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders were notified of a disabled 25-foot pleasure craft with four boaters aboard by the crew of the good Samaritan vessel Greenland Sea.​ Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, launched a Coast Guard Station Freeport boat crew and diverted an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the scene.

The Dolphin helicopter crew spotted the vessel once they arrived on scene and vectored in the Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew to the vessel.

The disabled vessel was escorted to Bridge Bait Marina in Freeport.

Weather on scene was reported as 2-foot seas with 10 mph winds.
