Coast Guard medevacs mariner near Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 48-year-old man off a tanker approximately 14 miles south of Galveston, Texas, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the captain of the 640-foot tanker Ance for the medevac of a crewmember who was reportedly suffering from chest pains. Watchstanders notified the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and transported the crewmember to University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

The mariner was reported in stable condition.
