Coast Guard rescues distressed boaters 38 miles east of Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Coast Guard crews rescued six boaters Sunday after their vessel became disabled 38-miles east of Savannah.

Boaters on the vessel activated their personal locating beacon (PLB) to contact the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston watchstanders received notification from the PLB at 12:05 p.m. and launched an Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew. The Dolphin crew located the vessel and vectored in a Coast Guard Station Tybee 45-foot Response Boat– Medium crew to their location.

The RBM crew is currently towing the vessel to a Lazaretto Creek marina.

There are no reported injuries and all boaters had life jackets.
