Coast Guard continues to search, assist partner agencies following plane crash

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and local partner agencies continue to search for two individuals who were on a plane that crashed off the Hamptons, Saturday morning.
At approximately 11:10 Saturday morning, watchstanders at Sector Long Island Sound were notified by Southampton Police that a surfer had seen a plane crash into the water about one mile south of Quogue.
Prior to the crash, three people boarded the twin-engine Piper PA-34 at the Danbury Municipal Airport in Connecticut. It is unknown where their intended destination was.
Several pieces of debris have been located, however, the fuselage has not been found. Two boats continue to use sonar to map the seafloor in attempts to locate the aircraft.
Coast Guard Cutter Bonito searched through the night and into the morning for the two missing people.
