Coast Guard Medevacs 74-Year-Old Man From Cruise Ship 28 Miles Southwest Point Loma

SAN DIEGO —​ The Coast Guard medevaced a 74-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately 28 miles off the coast of San Diego, Sunday.

Emerald Princess cruise ship crewmembers contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders at approximately​ 6:30 p.m. Sunday, requesting assistance for a passenger who was displaying symptoms of a heart attack and gastrointestinal distress.

Watchstanders​ launched a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to assist.

Once on scene, the Jayhawk crew hoisted the patient and a ship's medic into the helicopter at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The crew transported the patient to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and transferred him to awaiting medical personnel.

The patient was reported to be in stable condition.
