CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Coast Guard, and partner agencies rescued two kayakers Thursday who were beset by weather near the Memorial Causeway in Clearwater.

At 5:57 p.m., Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg Command Center watchstanders received a call from a good Samaritan on shore reporting multiple distressed kayakers in the Clearwater Harbor north of the Memorial Causeway.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small II boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, and diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter aircrew from Air Station Clearwater. Marine units from Dunedin Fire Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded to the UMIB to assist.

The RB-S boat crew located the distressed kayakers at 6:21 p.m., and rescued one while DFD personnel rescued the other. Both people and their kayaks were transported to Seminole Boat Ramp.

No injuries were reported.
