61-year-old medically evacuated by Coast Guard helo crew from Friday Harbor, Washington

SEATTLE -- A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a male reportedly suffering from a heart attack while at the Peace Island Medical Center near Friday Harbor, Sunday morning.

Due to inclement weather conditions and the inability of commercial medical transport services to operate in the environment, the Coast Guard aircrew transported the individual and a paramedic to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel at Paine Airfield.

Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound Command Center watchstanders initially received the request for assistance from Peace Island Medical Center personnel at 4:13 a.m.

The Sector Puget Sound personnel dispatched an Air Station Port Angeles aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to meet the medical team at Friday Harbor at 5:37 a.m. 

The patient was transported to Paine Airfield where awaiting EMS transferred him to Providence Hospital in Seattle.
The man’s condition is unknown at this time.
