Coast Guard rescues 2 people from disabled vessel

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two people from a disabled vessel in Lake Borgne, Louisiana, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday of an overdue vessel with two people aboard that launched from Shell Beach.

Sector watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft—Shallow Water boatcrew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans to locate the vessel.

The aircrew located the vessel at 3:36 a.m.

The vessel was disabled and at anchor. 

The aircrew directed the Coast Guard boatcrew to the vessel's location.

The boatcrew arrived on scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. and transported the two people to Shell Beach in stable condition.

Coast Guard searches for person in water near West Ship Island, Mississippi

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for a person who jumped off a boat near West Ship Island, Mississippi, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Alabama, received a report at 1:23 p.m. of a missing 17-year-old male who jumped off the yacht Lady Monroe approximately 0.25 nautical miles north of West Ship Island.

Involved in the search are:

• An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
• A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Gulfport
• The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Manowar
• Mississippi Department of Marine Resources

Coast Guard searching Lake Pontchartrain after finding capsized vesse

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for the owner of a capsized vessel reported in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, Wednesday.  

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report at 7:30 p.m. from Jefferson Parish Police Department about a white-hulled vessel capsized a quarter mile east of Treasure Chest Casino in Lake Pontchartrain.

Involved in the search are:

• Coast Guard Station New Orleans 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew
• Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew
• Kenner Police Department

Coast Guard searching for overdue boaters near Pensacola

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for three overdue boaters near Pensacola, Florida, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report that a man and his two sons had not returned by the anticipated time. They launched from Navy Point Boat Launch in Bayou Grande.

Missing are:

• David Washington, 80 years old, hometown unknown
• David Washington Jr., age and hometown unknown
• Darryl Washington, age and hometown unknown

While conducting a search pattern, a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew located a capsized vessel matching the description of the boat the overdue mariners were on.

Involved in the search are:

• Coast Guard Station Pensacola 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued three overdue boaters near Big Constance Lake, Louisiana, Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of three overdue boaters on a 20-foot commercial shrimping vessel from Rollover Landing, Louisiana. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries confirmed the truck and trailer associated with the overdue vessel was still at the landing.

Watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

The overdue boaters were located on shore near Big Constance Lake after using an orange shirt tied to a stick to flag down the helicopter crew. The boaters reported that their vessel had sunk 18 hours earlier.

The aircrew returned the boaters to their truck in good condition.

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard medevaced a person from a vessel near Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Alabama, received a report at approximately 4:20 p.m. that a person aboard a vessel received a leg injury.

Sector watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to assist the person.

The aircrew arrived on scene at approximately 6:40 p.m., hoisted the individual and transported them to a hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi, in stable condition.

Coast Guard medevacs 5 injured boaters

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced five injured boaters 23 nautical miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana, Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a Mayday call on VHF-FM Channel 16 at 12:03 a.m. from a boater stating they had struck a decommissioned rig and multiple persons on board had suffered injuries.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Response Boat – Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Venice and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

The Air Station New Orleans aircrew hoisted two patients, one suffering a broken leg and the other suffering a broken arm and possible collapsed lung. The aircrew transferred the patients to University Medical Center New Orleans in unknown condition.

The Station Venice boatcrew medevaced three patients with minor injuries and transferred them to waiting emergency medical services at Station Venice. The patients were reported to be in stable condition.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
