Coast Guard, agencies continue search for person in the water near Texas City, Texas

HOUSTON​ —​ The Coast Guard, along with multiple local, state and federal agencies continue to search Saturday evening for Chief Chris Reed, Kemah Chief of Police, who fell overboard from a vessel north of the Texas City Dike, near Texas City, Texas.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, the Coast Guard has searched approximately 650 square nautical miles.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tiger Shark will remain on scene in Galveston Bay and search throughout the evening, as well as vessels from assisting agencies.

A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew, and Station Galveston boat crew have concluded their search for the evening. They will resume their search at first light Sunday.​

Approximately 19 agencies assisted in the search, along with 25 volunteer vessels and numerous patrols along the shoreline.

Coast Guard medevacs mariner 92 miles offshore Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man approximately 92 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, Friday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the captain of the motor vessel The Bunga Kastori stating their chief engineer was having difficulty breathing and was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew were launched to the scene.

The Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the crewmember to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Scholes International Airport in Galveston.

Weather on scene was reported as 1-foot seas with 10 mph winds.

Coast Guard prepares for Hurricane Michael

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is continuing its preparations for Hurricane Michael by moving assets and personnel from areas that may be impacted, Tuesday.

The Coast Guard has moved various assets, including response boats and Coast Guard Cutters, to secure positions where they will be able to respond after the storm passes.

The Coast Guard urges all mariners to continuously monitor local and national weather sources and avoid coastal areas that may be impacted by the storm.

Citizens are urged to heed all warnings from local officials and to call 911 or use Channel 16 VHF to report emergences.

Coast Guard medevacs diver 115 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON —The Coast Guard medevaced a 54-year-old diver from a charter vessel approximately 115 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, Saturday night.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report from a representative of the vessel Fling of a female passenger who reportedly began exhibiting symptoms of a heart attack. Watchstanders notified the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew were launched.

Once on scene, a rescue swimmer was deployed to check on the condition of the passenger while the MH-65 refueled due to the distance offshore.

The woman was then hoisted and transported to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

"Through excellent coordination between multiple Coast Guard air assets, our command center and the crew of the Fling, all teams involved were able to work seamlessly to get the diver the medical assistance she needed from an area offshore where hoists are not routinely conducted," said Ensign Terrell Sisk, command duty officer at Sector Houston-Galveston.

The woman was reported to be in stable condition.

Coast Guard medevacs 3 after collision near Port O'Connor, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced three boaters after a collision near Port O'Connor, Texas, Friday evening.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a distress call from the owner of a 38-foot pleasure craft stating his boat had been involved in a collision that resulted inmultiple injuries.

A Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Station Port O'Connor boat crew was launched to the scene.

The Station Port O'Connor boat crew transported the three injured boaters, a 49 year-old man, a 24 year-old man and a 9 year-old boy, to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Froggie's Bait shop. The 49-year-old boater was then airlifted to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston where he was listed in critical condition.

Texas Parks and Wildlife will be conducting an investigation of the incident.

Coast Guard searches for missing diver near Sabine, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing diver 75 miles south of Sabine Pass, Texas, Thursday.
Missing is 65 year-old Alfred Charles Lensing.

Eighth Coast Guard District watchstanders received an emergency position indicating radio beacon signal Wednesday evening from a 22-foot pleasure craft tied to an oil rig. Watchstanders contacted the person on the vessel who activated the EPIRB and learned that a second person on the vessel had gone spear fishing but did not resurface.

Coast Guard assists in rescue of person in the water near Rockport, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard assisted in the rescue of a man who fell overboard from a vessel in Copano Bay near Rockport, Texas, Saturday night.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification from Rockport Police Department of a disabled personal watercraft. The operator of the watercraft reported a second person onboard to be in the water but not locatable.

An Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and Station Port Aransas boat crew were launched.
A Texas Parks and Wildlife boat crew arrived on scene could hear the person in the water screaming for help, but could not locate him.

Once on scene, the aircrew of the MH-65 spotted the man in the water and vectored in the Texas Parks and Wildlife boat crew who were able to recover the individual from the water.

The man did not request any medical assistance.

Coast Guard assists in rescue of person in the water near Rockport, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard assisted in the rescue of a man who fell overboard from a vessel in Copano Bay near Rockport, Texas, Saturday night.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification from a Rockport Police Department officer who was on the beach and heard screams coming from the water at approximately 10:30 p.m.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and Station Port O'Connor boat crew were launched and Texas Parks and Wildlife was contacted for support.

Once on scene, the aircrew of the MH-65 spotted the man in the water and vectored in a Texas Parks and Wildlife boat crew who were able to recover the individual from the water.

The man did not request any medical assistance.

Coast Guard assists fishing vessel taking on water near Port Aransas, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews assisted a fishing vessel taking on water 42 miles southeast of Port Aransas, Texas, Saturday morning.

At 8:31 a.m., the Captain Rolando contacted Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders to report the vessel was taking on water and in need of assistance.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew were diverted while a Station Port Aransas boat crew was launched.

Once on scene, the aircrew of the HC-144 passed a dewatering pump to the vessel.
The crew of the Captain Rolando were able to keep pace with the rate of flooding with use of the dewatering pump, and the fishing vessel is under its own power and propulsion.

The HC-144 aircrew will escort the fishing vessel as it makes way to port until relieved by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon.

A Sector/ Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin aircrew transports a man to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi airfield Aug. 9, 2018. The man requested medical assistance after suffering from severe abdominal pains while working on a fishing vessel 17 miles southeast of Port Aransas, Texas.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced a 57 year-old-man from an 87-foot fishing vessel approximately 17 miles southeast of Port Aransas, Texas, Thursday afternoon.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a request for a medevac from the captain of the vessel Captain H.W. after a crewmember was reportedly suffering from abdominal pains. Watchstanders notified the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember and transported him to the airfield at Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi. Awaiting emergency medical services personnel received the man and transported him to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline.
