Loong Air Selects Pratt & Whitney APS3200 Auxiliary Power Unit for Fleet of up to 34 New Airbus A320 Family Aircraft

ZHUHAI, ChinaNov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AIR SHOW CHINA -- Pratt & Whitney Canada, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), today announced that Loong Air has selected the APS3200 auxiliary power unit (APU) for the airline's order of 29 firm and 5 option Airbus A320 family aircraft. Pratt & Whitney Canada and Loong Air have also signed a long-term comprehensive support agreement to cover the APS3200 APU maintenance. With this APU selection, Loong Air will operate up to 68 Airbus A320 family aircraft with the APS3200 APU.

Milestone Year for V2500® Engine as it Looks to Power Third Platform

FARNBOUROUGH, England – July 18, 2018 – The company behind the V2500® engine is celebrating a milestone this year marking 35 years since the partnership was formed.
The V2500 engine is offered through IAE International Aero Engines AG, a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise Pratt & Whitney (NYSE:UTX), Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.
“The first V2500 engine flew into service just 6 years after we launched the company, and now this year we’ll start to power our third platform with this engine when the KC-390 is delivered to Embraer’s first customer,” said Bernie Zimmerman, president, IAE International Aero Engines AG. “The V2500 engine has powered more than 3,100 aircraft for greater than 200 million flight hours.”

Hawaiian Airlines Receives First U.S. Produced A320neo Family Aircraft Powered by Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan™ Engines

BROOKLYN, N.Y.June 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), Airbus and Hawaiian Airlines yesterday celebrated delivery of the first A320neo Family aircraft produced at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama. The aircraft, an A321neo powered by Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engines, will join three other A321neo aircraft currently operating in Hawaiian's fleet.  A special ceremony took place at the facility on June 11 to officially mark the delivery.
"Hawaiian Airlines is honored to receive the first U.S. produced A320neo Family aircraft," said Jon Snook, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Hawaiian Airlines. "We look forward to expanding our fleet with this fuel-efficient, quiet and environmentally-friendly GTF-powered aircraft, which have been performing exceptionally well for our operations between the U.S. West Coast and Hawaii."
Pratt & Whitney GTF engines will power 18 firm A321neo aircraft for Hawaiian Airlines, which plans to operate the fleet on routes like Portland-MauiOakland-Kauai and Los Angeles-Kona.

The majority of the design, manufacturing and assembly of GTF engines is done in the U.S. with the support of suppliers. Pratt & Whitney is investing more than $1.3 billion in 21st century manufacturing technology to transform its U.S. and global footprint.
Since entering into service in early 2016, the GTF engine has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, to reduce NOx emissions by 50 percent to the regulatory standard and to lower the noise footprint by 75 percent.

Pratt & Whitney GTF Engines Power Widerøe’s First Embraer E190-E2 Passenger Flight

Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), joins Widerøe today in celebrating the first passenger flight of their newly delivered Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. The flight, which departed Bergen, Norway and touched down in Tromsø, Norway, marks the official entry into service for the first of three E190-E2 aircraft Widerøe will take delivery of this year.

The largest regional airline in Scandinavia, Widerøe is the first airline to put the E190-E2 into commercial service, which will enable an expanded domestic and international route network. The airline has been a part of the Pratt & Whitney family since the late 1940s, when it began operating Wasp R-1340 radial engines.

The E190-E2 marks the third aircraft platform powered by the GTF engine. The aircraft has more than 17% reduction in fuel burn than the previous-generation E190, with NOx emissions 50% below the ICAO CAEP/6 regulation and a cumulative noise reduction of ICAO Chapter 4 minus 17dB to 20dB.  In addition to being selected as the exclusive engine for the E2 commercial aircraft, Pratt & Whitney's APS2600E auxiliary power unit (APU) is the sole-sourced APU for the E2 family.

P&W Team Deploys Major Logistics System Upgrade for F-35 Operational Fleet

A joint team consisting of Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin, Rolls-Royce and the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) subject matter experts successfully completed the rollout of a major upgrade to the F-35’s fleet management system. All F-35 operational bases around the globe were upgraded with the latest version of the Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS version 2.0.2.4), which now integrates Pratt & Whitney’s F135 propulsion system for the first time. Migrating the F135 propulsion system into ALIS marks an important next step in the evolution of the F-35 in terms of comprehensive weapon system sustainment.
This new release of ALIS automates the tracking of life-limited propulsion parts, manages squadron maintenance requirements with enhanced supply chain features and enables enhanced fault isolation, diagnostics & health trending to streamline resource management during home or deployed operations.
“Integrating propulsion into ALIS at every F-35 operational base represents a significant milestone for the F-35 program,” said Larry Breen, Associate Director, F135 ALIS Program Manager at Pratt & Whitney. “As a result of this upgrade, the men and women that support the F-35 can now manage a wide spectrum of logistics for the aircraft - including propulsion - from a single logistics system, eliminating much of the manual planning that was previously required with multiple maintenance systems. Ultimately, the integration of propulsion into ALIS will provide automated maintenance process capabilities, reducing sustainment costs and increasing aircraft availability. It is also a key enabler for condition-based maintenance, instead of cost-intensive fixed duration schedules, for this multi-role weapons system.”
ALIS serves as the information technology backbone of the F-35, capturing and analyzing condition-based data from the entire aircraft targeting preventative maintenance, prognostic health monitoring, supply chain management, flight scheduling and mission planning. For example, ALIS communicates health reporting codes, which when triggered, identify a component requiring the attention of the maintainers on the ground. ALIS also enables the pre-positioning of parts and qualified technicians, so downtime is minimized and the efficiency of flight line operations is increased.
Beginning in March 2017, cross functional contingents of more than 100 Pratt & Whitney employees partnered with subject matter experts from Lockheed Martin and the JPO to migrate propulsion at every operational base worldwide. Base migrations averaged 15 days from start to finish, and were led by Roger Neama, Larry Breen and Steve Switalski. Migration inventory teams touched nearly 200,000 propulsion assets around the world during wall-to-wall material audits. Data migration teams transitioned inventory records and component usage history into the new system, while post ‘Go-Live’ teams supported each squadron as they took their first steps processing off board engine usage data in ALIS as the official system of record.

Future F-35 base activations will include ALIS version 2.0.2.4 or newer with propulsion already integrated. ALIS version 3.0 brings additional functionality to the front lines and is expected to be fielded later this year.
