Coast Guard rescues 4 people from disabled vessel

NEW ORLEANS— the Coast Guard rescued four people from a disabled vessel offshore Southwest Pass Louisiana, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 10:50 a.m. of a disabled 20-foot vessel with four people aboard 8 miles south of Southwest Pass.

Sector watchstanders directed the launch of a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft—Shallow Water boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Venice and a diverted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to assist the vessel.

The aircrew arrived on scene at 12:18 p.m. and directed the boatcrew to the disabled boat’s location.

The Coast Guard boatcrew transferred the four people aboard their vessel and towed the disabled vessel to Venice Marina.

The people were transported safely in stable condition.

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for a person who was last seen swimming in the Lower Mississippi River near Venice, Louisiana, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 5:38 p.m. of a missing 27-year-old man who was last seen swimming in the Lower Mississippi River near mile marker 19 at Fort Jackson.​

The missing man was wearing a black shirt and blue shorts.

Involved in the search are:

• An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
• A response boat medium crew from Coast Guard Station Venice
• The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish
• A marine unit from Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office

Coast Guard rescues 2 near Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard rescued two men from their vessel near Galveston, Texas, Saturday night.

At 8:45 p.m., Sector Houston/Galveston watchstanders received a request from Sector New Orleans watchstanders after a 911 call was received from a boater reporting that his 22-foot pleasure craft had become disabled and stranded on rocks near Bird Island in Galveston Bay.

Coast Guard Station Galveston response boat crewmembers attempted to assist but were unable due to shallow water depths around the pleasure craft. An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew hoisted and transported the two boaters to Scholes International Airport in Galveston.

There were no reports of injuries.
