Coast Guard medevacs man from boat 70 miles off New Jersey

PHILADELPHIA – A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a man from a fishing boat about 70 miles southeast of Cape May, New Jersey, Wednesday.

The crew of the fishing boat Relentless called the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center at about 1 p.m. and reported that a crewmember was experiencing chest pains and needed medical attention. The Relentless was at an offshore fishing ground, about four hours from port.

An Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew flew out to medevac him for faster access to medical support. They transported him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center; he was reported to be in stable condition.

Coast Guard medevacs 44-year-old man near Long Beach, N.Y.

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 44-year-old man suffering from abdominal pains near Long Beach, New York, Friday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard New York command center received notification at approximately 10:30 p.m., stating the crewmember needed medical attention aboard the 600-foot Greek-flagged tanker Minerva Grace.

The command center watchstanders briefed the flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and safely hoisted the crewmember and transported him to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The man was then transferred to Jamaica Hospital in Queens, N.Y., by EMS.

The man’s condition is currently unknown.

The passenger was hoisted up and transported to the air station where an ambulance was awaiting.

PHILADELPHIA — An aircrew aboard a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter medevaced a 66-year-old woman from the cruise ship Carnival Horizon at approximately 1 a.m. this morning.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center were contacted by a crewmember on the cruise ship, who requested a medevac for the woman. The woman had reportedly suffered a stroke and needed medical assistance.

An aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, was launched to assist. After hoisting the woman and a nurse from the ship, the aircrew transported her Air Station Atlantic City, to awaiting ambulance.

“Communication is key in situations like this,” said Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Capestany, command duty officer at Sector Delaware Bay's command center. “Quick and efficient coordination between the Coast Guard and the cruise ship were key in the successful execution of this medical evacuation. As a result, the woman received the medical attention that she needed.”

Coast Guard, partner agencies find overdue jet skier near Brooklyn, NY

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and partner agencies found Koray Kurulgan, a jet skier who was reported to be overdue, in the vicinity of Marine Basin Marina in Brooklyn, New York.

After being reported missing by his father, the 27-year-old was safely located with his gray jet ski secured to a boat.

The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to plan ahead before venturing out on the water by filing a float plan with someone on land.

A float plan includes all the pertinent information the Coast Guard will need in a search, including the names of the owner and operator of the vessel, description of the operator and passengers, and information about the vessel. It will also include information about your trip including departure date, departure location, destination, your planned route and your return time.

Coast Guard medevacs disoriented, diabetic man from grounded boat near Little Egg Inlet, NJ

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard medevaced a diabetic man, who had become disoriented and grounded his boat near Little Egg Inlet, Saturday.

The man’s daughter contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay and reported that her father was disoriented on the rocks near Golden Nugget Hotel and possibly required insulin.

The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City to search.

After not being able to locate the man where he was reported, watchstanders worked with the cell phone company to identify his possible location, leading the aircrew to find him on the southern side of Little Egg Inlet.

They hoisted him aboard and took him to Air Station Atlantic City to meet EMS for potential treatment.

PHILADELPHIA — A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 36-year-old man suffering from a possible stroke aboard a fishing vessel approximately 35 miles east of Manasquan Inlet, New Jersey, Sunday evening.

The captain aboard the fishing vessel contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia at about 5:45 p.m. to request a medical evacuation.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the Coast Guard Cutter Sitkinak, homeported in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, launched to assist the ailing man. The helicopter aircrew hoisted the man aboard and brought him to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.

“The crew of the fishing vessel did a great job notifying the Coast Guard immediately after the incident,” said Lt. Spencer Grinnell, the co-pilot on the case. “It was a challenging night hoist assisted by great coordination between Sector Delaware Bay and the Cutter Sitkinak.”

Coast Guard assists boaters stranded on island in Chesapeake Bay

BALTIMORE — A Coast Guard aircrew safely recovered two men stranded on Adam Island in the Chesapeake Bay this morning.

The men intentionally ran their 17-foot vessel aground on the marshy, unpopulated island after becoming beset by foul weather Saturday night.

One of the boaters' fathers notified watchstanders in the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region’s command center at 9:45 a.m. today that the two men were still stranded and soaking wet on the island.

An already-airborne MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, diverted from a training flight to assist. The crew landed on Adam Island, recovered the two men and transported them to Salisbury Regional Airport in Salisbury, Maryland.

The boaters are scheduled to retrieve their vessel as soon as possible.

"Adverse weather conditions can suddenly emerge and impact anyone's underway voyage at any time," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Terrence Young, operations unit controller for the case. "That's why it's vital to continuously check weather forecasts in your area and prepare for the worst-case scenario by bringing appropriate safety gear and dressing for harsh conditions."

Coast Guard medevacs 71-year-old cruise ship passenger off NJ coast

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 71-year-old man suffering from possible kidney failure aboard a cruise ship approximately 51 miles east of Ocean City, New Jersey, Friday evening.

The captain aboard the cruise ship Anthem of the Seas contacted watchstanders at the Fifth District Command Center in Portsmouth at 6:20 p.m. to request a medical evacuation.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, launched to assist the ailing man. The helicopter aircrew hoisted the man aboard and brought him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

“It is imperative to alert the Coast Guard to these emergencies as soon as possible,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Charles Reaves, operations unit controller at the command center. “In this case, the timely notification allowed our crews to reach the man and deliver him to higher medical care quickly and efficiently.”
