Leonardo AESA surveillance radar technology will be on-board new Saab GlobalEye

•  Saab’s  new  GlobalEye  Swing  Role  Surveilance  System  (SSRS)  will  integrate  Leonardo’s ‘Seaspray’  radar   

•  Leonardo’s  Active  Electronically  Scanned  Array  (AESA)  technology  sets  the  standard  for surveillance  radars,  having  been  sold  to  30  countries  including  for  the  UK  and  US  Navies and  for  the  Italian  Air  Force 

•  The Seaspray  family  of  radars  combine  high  performance  with  ultra-competitive  levels  of reliability  and  cost-of-ownership  and  are  easy  to  operate   

–  Leonardo  has  announced  that  its  AESA  radar  technology  will  be  onboard  the  new  Saab  GlobalEye  Swing  Role  Surveilance  System  (SRSS),  which  was  unveiled  last week  in  a  ceremony  in  Linköping,  Sweden.  The  radar,  a  Leonardo  Seaspray,  will  allow  the  SRSS to  conduct  surveillance  using  a  variety  of  advanced  modes,  enhancing  the  platform’s  ability  to detect  targets.   

Seaspray  is  an  AESA  radar  (standing  for  Active  Electronically  Scanned  Array,  also  known  as  ‘EScan’),  which  means  that  instead  of  the  radar  physically  pointing  its  antenna  at  a  target,  a  matrix  of miniature  radar  modules  are  used  to  steer  the  beam  electronically.  Because  of  the  Company’s  high level  of  expertise  in  this  technology  area,  its  Seaspray  and  Osprey  families  of  surveillance  radars are  able  to  combine  high  performance  with  ultra-competitive  levels  of  reliability  and  cost-ofownership,  as  well  as  being  easy  to  install  and  operate.  The  radars  can  also  perform  multiple  tasks simultaneously,  for  example  carrying  out  maritime  surveillance  while  at  the  same  time  monitoring the  weather  on  the  aircraft’s  flight  path. 

Leonardo’s  multi-mode  AESA  surveillance  radars  are  a  worldwide  success,  having  been  sold  to  30 countries.  The  Seaspray  7500E  has  seen  service  with  the  US  Coast  Guard,  while  the  Seaspray 7000E  equips  the  UK  Armed  Forces’  AW159  Wildcat  helicopters,  the  Seaspray  7300E  equips  the Italian  Air  Force’s  ATR-72s  and  the  Seaspray  5000E  was  recently  selected  for  the  Bangladeshi Navy  to  conduct  anti-smuggling  and  anti-pollution  missions.  The  Company’s  Osprey  AESA  radar  is on-board  Norway’s  new  Leonardo  AW101  search  and  rescue  helicopters,  which  have  now  started to  be  delivered,  and  was  also  recently  selected  by  the  US  Navy  to  equip  its  new  MQ-9C  Fire  Scout unmanned  helicopters.  Leonardo’s  AESA  surveillance  radars  offer  air-to-air  and  air-to-ground capabilities  with  a  variety  of  advanced  modes  including  the  company’s  patented  small  target detection  capability. 

Babcock to operate the first fleet of H160s

–  Babcock  is  set  to  become  the  global  launch  customer  for  the H160  after  signing  a  five  year  frame  agreement  for  the  purchase  of  a  fleet  of  H160s.  The fleet  of  H160s  is  destined  for  EMS  and  other  critical  services  missions  starting  in  Europe  and to  be  deployed  progressively  across  Babcock’s  bases  worldwide.

With  68  patents,  the  H160  integrates  Airbus  Helicopters’  latest  technological  innovations aimed  at  providing  passengers  with  superior  comfort  thanks  to  the  sound-reducing  Blue Edge  blades  and  superb  external  visibility  for  both  passengers  and  pilots,  not  to  mention  the additional  safety  features  provided  by  Helionix’s  flight  envelope  protection  and  reduced  pilot workload.  Airbus  Helicopters’  new  industrial  model,  based  on  site  specialisation  and  a  plug and  play  component  assembly  process,  has  reduced  the  H160’s  time  to  market  to  24  weeks giving  customers  more  flexibility.  This  will  enable  customers  to  confirm  their  mission configuration  at  later  stage  based  on  market  needs.

First H160 orders for the North American market

–  Airbus  Helicopters  has  signed  the  first  order  for  four  ACH160s with  an  undisclosed,  North  American  customer.    The  launch  customer,  a  major  US  business entity  with  extensive  experience  in  corporate  aviation,  has  opted  for  one  aircraft  to  be delivered  in  Stylence  by  ACH  configuration,  the  in-house,  private  and  business  design product  line;  with  the  remaining  three  aircraft  to  be  delivered  in  ACH  Exclusive  configuration, the  select  design  product  line  which  allows  the  highest  level  of  customisation  and  bespoke craftsmanship.   

“With  the  launch  of  Airbus  Corporate  Helicopters  (ACH)  last  year,  now  followed  by  the  first order  of  this  new  generation  helicopter  by  a  corporate  customer,  the  ACH160  is  set  to revolutionise  the  way  our  private  and  business  aviation  customers  travel,”  said  Ben  Bridge, Executive  Vice  President  Global  Business  at  Airbus  Helicopters.   

Although  the  ACH160’s  cutting-edge  design  and  technology  provides  passengers  with  a  truly business  jet-like  passenger  experience,  it  was  the  low  external  sound  levels,  witnessed during  a  flight  demo  at  the  company’s  headquarters  in  Marignane,  France,  which  helped  the customer  commit  to  an  order  for  four  aircraft.  The  ACH160  represents  a  step-change  in passenger  experience  with  its  panoramic  views,  low  sound  levels,  smooth  flight  even  at  high speeds,  and  the  high-quality,  ACH  interior  fits  and  customisation  options  that  meet  the  high standards  of  private  and  corporate  customers.

Leonardo: AW139 global helicopter fleet sets outstanding milestone of two million flight hours

The  AW139  intermediate  twin  engine  helicopter  global  fleet  has reached  an  outstanding  milestone  of  two  million  flight  hours,  across  all  operational  scenarios  on five  continents,  while  performing  a  wide  range  of  missions  with  commercial,  government  and military  operators. This  accomplishment  was  reached  just  three  years  after  the  achievement  of  the first  million  showing  impressive  reliability,  effectiveness,  safety  and  supportability  across  a  range of missions.   

With  the  AW139  fleet  leader  having  exceeded  12,000  hours  on  a  single  aircraft,  nearly  900  units are  today  in  service  out  of  over  1000  on  order  by  more  than  300  customers  in  80  countries worldwide.  The  global  reach  of  the  AW139,  assembled  in  Philadelphia  and  Vergiate,  has  resulted in  the  type  becoming  a  benchmark  as  the  best-selling  helicopter  in  its  weight  category  and  the most  successful  helicopter  programme  in  the  last  15  years.  The  type  covers  the  widest  range  of applications  with  high  flexibility  including  SAR,  EMS,  law  enforcement  and  homeland  security, patrol,  firefighting,  disaster  relief,  offshore  transport,  VIP/Corporate  transport,  utility  and  military duties.   This  latest  operational  achievement  is  the  combined  result  of  the  AW139’s  design,  quality, performance  and  market  success  as  well  as  Company’s  capability  in  supporting  the  worldwide fleet. The  two  million  flight  hour  milestone  was  made  possible  through  the  variety  of  Leonardo services  and  support  packages  and  the  extended  support  network  distributed  in  geographies around  the  world.     

The  AW139  complies  with  the  latest  certification  and  safety  standards,  offering  outstanding  overall performance  with  impressive  power  margin  and  one  engine  inoperative  capability  and  also  with  a certified  60+  MGB  ‘run  dry’  capability  which provides  the  highest  standard in terms  of  safety.   Designed  to  allow  high  versatility  and  customized  solutions,  the  AW139  is  available  with  more  than 1000  certified  equipment  options. Among  some  of  the  latest  innovative  systems  available  for  the type  are  the  LIPS  and  FIPS  (Limited  and  Full  Icing  Protection  Systems,  respectively),  and  the OPLS  (Obstacle Proximity  Lidar  System)  that  enhance mission  capability  and  safety.   

The  AW139  has  significantly  grown  its  capabilities  in  years.  This  includes  a  maximum  take-off weight  extension  (MTOW)  to  7,000  kg  for  newly  built  and  retrofitted  aircraft,  and  as  a  result,  new Cat  A  offshore  enhanced  procedures,  avionic  suite  releases  delivering  ADSB-Out  (automated dependent  surveillance-broadcast),  TCAS  II  (Traffic  Alert  and  Collision  Avoidance  System),  RNP performance  (Required  Navigation  Performance),  EGPWS  update  (Enhanced  Ground  Proximity System),  Wide  Area  Augmentation  System/Localizer  Performance  with  Vertical  Guidance,  and many  other  features.   

Supportability  has  also  been  strengthened.  A  30%  reduction  in  maintenance  time  has  been achieved  with  a  dedicated  Service  Excellence  initiative.  Leonardo  has  established  a  Reliability Data  Sharing  Group  (RDSG)  and  has  launched  a  Flight  Crew  Operations  Manual  (FCOM)  as additional  services.  Since  its  certification  in  2004,  approximately  5300  pilots  and  7700  technicians have been  trained  with over  150,000 simulator  hours  logged  to  date.     The  AW139  helicopter  is  part  of  the  family  of  new  generation  helicopters  produced  by  Leonardo that  also  includes  the  AW169  and  AW189.  These  models  all  possess  the  same  high-performance flight  characteristics  and  safety  features  whilst  sharing  the  same  common  cockpit  concept  and design  philosophy.  This  approach  facilitates  synergies  for  operators  of  these  types  in  areas  such as  training,  maintenance  and  support.  The  AW139  design,  success  and  experience  have  been  key to  the  development  of  these  latest  additions  to  the product  range and  the  family  concept  itself.

Leonardo introduces new training and flight operations services to increase safety, missions effectiveness and customer service.

-Leonardo  launches  the  new  Enhanced  Training  Device  (ETD)  combining  ‘high-end’ training  objectives  and  cost/effectiveness.

-AW189  FCOM  (Flight  Crew  Operating  Manual)  to  follow  the  success  of  the  AW139 FCOM  allowing  enhanced  safety  in  offshore  missions  with  detailed  standard  flight procedures.

-SkyFlight mission  planning  system  allows  now  for  weight  and  balance  calculations in  Cat  A  condition  for  more  efficient  and  safe  assessment  of  operations  before  takeoff.

Las  Vegas,  27  February  2018  –  At  Heli-Expo  Leonardo  is  announcing  a  range  of  both  new  and further  enhanced  training  and  flight  operation  services  aimed  at  a  continued  increase  of  safety, missions  effectiveness and customer  service quality.   

Leveraging its well  established  capability  for  the  design  of  training  devices  including  VIPT  (Virtual Interactive  Procedural  Trainer),  FTD  (Flight  Training  Device)  and  FFS  (Full  Flight  Simulator), Leonardo  has  now  launched  the  new  ETD  (Enhanced  Training  Device)  enabling  pursuit  of  training objectives  that  are  typical  of  ‘higher-end’  devices  at  a  fraction  of  the  cost.  The  result  of  a  thorough assessment  of  market  requirements,  the  ETD  is  based  on  a  fixed  Flight  Training  Device  combined with  extensive  use  of  touchscreen  technology.  It’s  ideally  suited  for  cockpit  familiarization, automation  training,  standard/emergency  procedure,  training  with  platform  specific  avionics,  Flight Management  Systems,  radio  management  system,  IFR,  and  Multi-Crew  Coordination.  The  ETD state-of-the-art  reconfigurable  and  fully  representative  cockpit  allows  flight  and  mission  simulation training  for  a  number  of  helicopter  models,  ensuring  the  highest  standard  of  fidelity  and  safety  only possible through  the  design,  delivery  and support  provided by  Leonardo.   

Following  the  successful  release  of  the  AW139  helicopter  offshore  FCOM  (Flight  Crew  Operating Manual),  the  AW189  now  follows  in  supporting  the  Oil  &  Gas  community.  The  operations  manual offers  comprehensive  information  and  guidance  to  establish  a  valuable  reference  resource  for pilots  during  offshore  operations.  The  main  purpose  is  to  further  enhance  safety  and  operational effectiveness,  particularly  for  flight-crew  management  of  automation  and  situational  awareness,  as well  as  contribute  to  crew  standardization  hence  mitigating  risks.  The  AW139  FCOM  is  the  most widely  used in  the  rotary  wing  industry  and  the  AW189 FCOM  builds on  that  experience.   

The  SkyFlight  mission  planning  system  has  proven  an  incredibly  helpful  tool  for  an  on  ground evaluation  of  all  aspects  of  the  missions  before  take-off,  in  order  to  guarantee  maximized  safety and  operational  effectiveness,  while  reducing  pilot  workload  and  optimizing  costs.  SkyFlight  now offers  accurate  Weight  and  Balance  calculations  with  Cat.  A  performance for  the  AW139  helicopter and  this  capability  will  also  be  extended  to  the  AW169  and  AW189.  These  latest  features  are  in line  with  the  Flight  Crew  Operating  Manuals  (FCOM)  provided  by  Leonardo  thus  ensuring increased  efficiency  and  safety.  Customers    can  download  and  install  the  latest  version  of  the Skyflight  application  onto  their  (Apple  and  Android?)  products,  enabling  access  to  the  Skyflight Mobile Service.

Leonardo  is  also  focusing  on  an  additional  range  of  safety-oriented  training  solutions  such  as in  the case  of  the  controlled  flight  into  terrain  mitigation  education  programme.  Full  Flight  Simulators  are to  be  used  to  in  order  to  enhance  aircrew  awareness  and  capabilities  when  encountering  these hazards  and  implement  dedicated  procedures  and  best  practices  in  the  use  of  Terrain  Awareness and  Warning  System,  Synthetic  Vision  System.     

Helionix fleet hits 100,000 flight-hour milestone

Airbus  Helicopters’  digital  avionics  suite  now  operational  on  H135,  H145  and H175,  coming  up on  H160. 

Las  Vegas,  1  March  2018 – Airbus’  fleet  of  helicopters  equipped  with  the  Helionix  avionics  system have  surpassed  the  symbolic  milestone  of  100.000  flight  hours,  just  three  years  after  customer operations  started.

Initially  in  service  with  the  H145  and  H175,  this  digital  avionics  suite  was  later  certified  in  the  H135 and  in  the  future  will  equip  the  H160  as  well  as  other  helicopters  in  the  current  and  future  Airbus Helicopters  product  line. 

Designed  by  Airbus  Helicopters  to  offer  increased  mission  flexibility  and  operational  safety,  Helionix grew  out  of  operators’  need  for  a  more  powerful  avionics  system  with  greater  functions  and computing  capacity,  but  which  was  easier  to  use  and  relied  on  fewer  displays.  It  comprises  two computers  and  a  one-of-a-kind  cockpit  layout  with  up  to  four  electronic  displays  designed  to improve  pilots’  situational  awareness  in  flight.   

“Helionix  is  a  family  concept  that  has  been  hailed  by  users  for  its  intuitive  human  machine  interface and  autopilot,  features  which  allow  pilots  to  concentrate  more  fully  on  the  flight  itself  and  increase flight  safety”  declared  Jean-Jacques  Mevel,  Head  of  Helionix  Program.  “We  keep  investing  on Helionix  with  regular  software  enhancement,  which  lately  included  bolstering  the  SAR  capabilities as  well  as  the  Rig  N’  Fly  automatic  oil  platform  mode  approaches”.   

The  avionics  suite  includes  a  four-axis  autopilot  to  reduce  pilot  workload,  and  a  First  Limit  Indicator in  which  engine  instrument  data  is  shown  under  one  indicator.  A  GPS  navigation  and communication  system  and  a  Traffic  Advisory  System  complete  the  suite,  while  a  mission  system, including  Digital  map,  a  Helicopter  Terrain  Avoidance  System  and  a  Synthetic  Vision  System,  give   pilots  full  situational  awareness.   

Next  step  will  involve  enhancing  functions  like  the  Automated  Dependent  Surveillance-broadcast, the  Synthetic  Vision  System  and  the  Helicopter  Terrain  Awareness  and  Warning  System  advanced modes as well  as  proposing  connectivity  advanced  solutions. 

At  present,  more  than  250  helicopters  are  today  operated  with  Helionix,  involving  over  40  operators worldwide  and  carrying  out  a  wide  range  of  missions  including  EMS,  law  enforcement,  Police, Oil&Gas,  SAR,  VIP  etc.   

Leonardo: Chinese fleet grows stronger with orders for additional 26 helicopters worth in excess of 120 million euro

 •  Contracts  signed  by  Sino-US,  the  exclusive  distributor  of  Leonardo  in  the  Chinese  civil and  commercial  helicopter  market,  for  7  AW119Kx,  15  AW109  Trekker  and  4  AW139 helicopters  valued  more  than  120  million  euro  with  deliveries  in  2018  and  2019.   

•  Latest  orders  follow  those  made  in  the  last  two  years  for  65  aircraft,  particularly  for  EMS helicopters,  confirming  Leonardo  as  the  leading  helicopter  supplier  in  China  in  both  2016 and  2017,  the  company  with  the  largest  deployed  EMS  helicopter  fleet,  and  Sino-US  as the  national  distributor  with  best  performance.   

•  Leonardo  set  a  new  yearly  record  delivery  in  China  with  30  units  shipped  in  2017.   

•  More than  200  helicopters  of  various  types  produced  by  Leonardo  have  been  sold  to Chinese  customers  to  date  for  a  range  of  both  commercial  and  public  services. 

Las  Vegas,  28  February  2018  –  Leonardo  announced  today  that  Sino-US  Intercontinental Helicopter  Investment  (Sino-US)  of  China  has  signed  contracts  for  additional  26  helicopters, including  7  AW119Kx  single  engine,  15  AW109  Trekker  light  twins  and  4  AW139  intermediate twins  with  deliveries  expected  to  start  this  year  through  to  2019.  The  contracts  are  valued  in excess  of  120  million  euro.   

The  orders  follow  a  series  of  contracts,  particularly  for  EMS  helicopters,  signed  by  Sino-US  in recent  years  which  include  25  AW119Kx  single  engines  and  a  mix  of  30  AW139s  and  AW169s  in 2016,  followed  by  10  AW109  Trekkers  in  2017.  These  latest  orders  strengthens  the  collaboration between  Leonardo  Helicopter  and  Sino-US  in  China,  including  Hong  Kong  and  Macau.  The presence  of  Leonardo  in  China  grows  stronger  with  more  than  200  helicopters  sold  to  Chinese customers  of  various  types  to  date  for  a  range  of  both  commercial  and  public  services,  while maintaining  its  leading  role  in  the  EMS  market.  Leonardo  has  set  a  new  yearly  delivery  record  in the  Chinese  market  with  30  units  in  2017.  With  further  deliveries  planned  in  the  next  couple  of years,  Chinese  civil  operator  Kingwing  would  become  one  of  the  largest  for  Leonardo  helicopters worldwide.

Leonardo: Era Group to mark entry of AW609 tiltrotor into the US commercial market

-Under  the  agreement,  Era  will  take  delivery  of  two  AW609s  plus training  package  in 2020 

-Era’s  AW609s  will  be  used to  perform  offshore/utility,  VIP,  EMS,  and  SAR  missions 

-Requirements  for  approximately  50  AW609s  have  been  expressed  by  operators worldwide  to date 

Rome,  27  February  2018  –  Leonardo  and  Era Group  (Era)  have announced  today  the  signing  of  a landmark  agreement  that  would  launch  the  AW609  into  service  in  the  US  commercial  market  and demonstrate  its  capabilities on  a  wider  scale.   

Building  upon  their  previous  efforts  in  helping  to  mature the  design,  development  and  supportability of  the  AW609,  Era  will  take  delivery  of  two  aircraft  in  2020  plus  a  dedicated  training  package. These  aircraft,  in  a  9  passenger  utility  configuration,  will  be  used  for  numerous  applications, including  offshore/utility,  VIP,  EMS,  and SAR  missions  in USA.

Roma, 28 de febrero de 2018 -Leonardo anunció hoy la entrega de dos helicópteros monomotor AW119Kx a Akagera Aviation, Ruanda.

La aeronave presenta una configuración convertible personalizada para el transporte de pasajeros o servicios médicos de emergencia (EMS), según las necesidades de la misión.

Los dos AW119Kx se suman a un AW109 GrandNew y un AW139, ya operado por Akagera Aviation para transporte y servicios EMS en el país desde 2010.

Ruanda se convirtió en el primer país de África Central en poner en servicio un helicóptero EMS exclusivo y de última generación.

Con la entrega del AW109 GrandNew, las cuatro aeronaves están perfectamente adaptadas para operar bajo las altas temperaturas atmosféricas de Ruanda, y proporcionarán un aumento significativo de los servicios aerotransportados que apoyan a las comunidades locales.

Los helicópteros AW119Kx que acabamos de entregar también respaldarán la creciente demanda de turismo en Ruanda, permitiendo que un número cada vez mayor de visitantes acceda fácilmente a las increíbles atracciones naturales que tiene el país.

El AW119Kx es el helicóptero de un solo motor, el mejor en su clase, que cuenta con un sistema de aviónica de última generación para una mayor conciencia situacional, efectividad de la misión y seguridad.

El AW119Kx tiene una gran cabina con capacidad para hasta seis pasajeros, redundancia de todos los sistemas críticos que normalmente están disponibles en helicópteros de dos motores, lo que garantiza una seguridad excepcional.

Casi 300 helicópteros AW119 han sido encargados hasta la fecha por más de 120 clientes en casi 40 países.

El nuevo AW119Kx se adapta perfectamente para realizar muchos roles, incluidos EMS, servicios públicos, extinción de incendios, cumplimiento de la ley, transporte VIP/Corporativo, capacitación de pilotos y tareas de servicio público.

Rome,  28  February  2018  –  Leonardo  announced  today  the  delivery  of  two  AW119Kx  single engine  helicopters  to  Akagera  Aviation  of  Rwanda.  The  aircraft  feature  a  customized  convertible configuration  for  passenger  transport  or  emergency  medical  service  (EMS)  depending  on  mission requirements.  The  two AW119Kx  add to an  AW109  GrandNew  and an  AW139 already  operated  by Akagera  Aviation  for  transport  and  EMS  duties  in  the  country  since  2010.  Rwanda  became  the  first Central  African  country  to  introduce  into  service  a  dedicated,  state-of-the-art  EMS  helicopter  with the  delivery  of  the  AW109 GrandNew.   The  four  aircraft  are  perfectly  suited  to  operate  in  the  hot  and  high  conditions  of  Rwanda  and  will provide  a  significant  increase  to  airborne  services  nationwide  supporting  local  communities.  The AW119Kx  helicopters  just  delivered  will  also  support  the  growing  demand  for  tourism  in  Rwanda, allowing  an  increasing number  of  visitors  to easily  access  the  amazing  natural  attractions.   The  AW119Kx  is  a  best  in  class  single  engine  helicopter  featuring  a  state-of-the-art  avionics system  for  enhanced  situational  awareness,  mission  effectiveness  and  safety.  The  AW119Kx  has a  large  cabin  able  to  accommodate  up  to  six  passengers  and  redundancy  of  all  critical  systems that  are  typically  available  on  twin  engine  aircraft,  ensuring  outstanding  safety.  Nearly  300  AW119 helicopters  have  been  ordered  to  date  by  over  120  customers  in  almost  40  countries.  The new  AW119Kx  is  perfectly  suited  to  perform  many  roles  including  EMS,  utility,  fire-fighting,  law enforcement,  VIP/Corporate  transport,  pilot  training  and public  service  duties.   Leonardo  has  experienced  significant  growth  in  Africa  in  recent  years  with  approximately  500 helicopters  of  various  types  sold.  Significant  markets  for  its  aircraft  in  the  Sub-Saharan  African region  in  the  last  10  years  include  Equatorial  Guinea,  Congo  Brazzaville,  Uganda,  Rwanda  and Kenya.  Applications  cover  passenger  transport,  EMS,  surveillance,  law  enforcement  and  other public  utility  missions.   Established  in  2004  and  headquartered  at  the  Kigali  International  Airport,  Akagera  Aviation  is  a leading  aviation  company  in  Rwanda  providing  high  quality  helicopter  services  including  helicopter operations,  maintenance  and  training.  Akagera  Aviation  is  also  the  first  tourist  operator  in  the country. 

Leonardo celebrates helicopter orders at Heli-Expo 2018 of nearly 140 million euro.

Rome,  1  March  2018  –  Leonardo  announced  further  combined  orders  for  helicopters  at  Heli-Expo in  Las  Vegas today  for  a total  of  17  aircraft  valued  at  almost  140  million  euro  for  several  customers in  various  countries  and  for  a  range  of  commercial  and  public  service  applications.  Contracts include  a  mix  of  AW119Kx  single  engine,  AW109  GrandNew  and  AW109  Trekker  light  twins, AW169  light-intermediate,  AW139  intermediate  and  AW189  super  medium  types,  confirming  the strong competitiveness of  Company’s  modern  product  portfolio.

A  total  of  seven  emergency  medical  service helicopters  (EMS)  to be  operated  in Europe  have been sold,  including  four  AW169s  and  three  AW139s.  An  AW169  in  particular  has  been  purchased  by Specialist  Aviation  Services  (SAS)  in  UK  which  has  already  received  seven  aircraft  and  plans  to bring  the  total  fleet  of  AW169s  to  12  in  the  future.  Leonardo  is  a  strong  supplier  of  EMS  and  SAR helicopters  with a  fleet  of  over  600 units  in  service in  50  nations. 

An  AW169  has  been  ordered  by  HeliService  International  GmbH  (HeliService)  of  Germany  to perform  missions  in  the  North  Sea.  HeliService’s  fleet  already  includes  two  AW169  in  service  and their  initial  orders  in  2015  and  2016  marked  the  first  AW169s  for  this  application  and  the  entry  of the  new  model  into  the  German  helicopter  market.  Since  then  the  AW169  success  in  the  North  Sea wind  farm  offshore  market  has  grown  further  with  orders  placed  by  other  European  operators. Growth  in  the  offshore  transport  market  was  achieved  with  the  sale  of  an  additional  AW139,  plus one  option,  to  Travira  Air  in  Indonesia.  This  is  the  fourth  aircraft  of  this  type  sold  to  this  operator  in the  Southeast  Asian  country. 

In  the  UK,  Sloane  Helicopters,  official  distributor  of  Leonardo  helicopters  with  more  than  75  aircraft sold  in  UK  and  Ireland,  placed  an  order  for  an  AW109  GrandNew  VIP  and  an  AW109  Trekker. Sloane  becomes  the  first  customer  for  the  recently  EASA-certified  AW109  Trekker  in  Northern Europe,  following  international  market  success  for  the  new  type  which  has  so  far  logged  orders  for over  40  units.  Another  AW109  GrandNew  has  been  ordered  by  Japanese  official  distributor  Kaigai Aviotech  while  an  AW139  will  be  used  for  shuttle  service  operations  in  Spain.  In  Argentina,  Flight Express  placed an  order  for  an  AW119Kx  and an  AW169 in  VIP/Corporate  configuration.  Leonardo is  unmatched in  the  global  VIP/corporate  market  with a  50%  share in  the  multiengine  segment.

Mitsui  Bussan  Aerospace  of  Japan  and  Leonardo  have  signed  a  renewal  of  the  Distributorship Agreement  for  the  next  three  years  covering  the  AW169,  AW139  and  AW189  models,  also including  an  order  for  one  AW189  super  medium  helicopter.  Furthermore,  the  partners  have  also signed  the  renewal  of  the  Basic  Ordering  Agreement  for  an  increasing  stock  of  spare  parts  to further  strengthen  customer  support  services in  Japan. 

Finally,  the  Tianjin  Municipal  Public  Security  Bureau  has  chosen  the  AW139  for  law  enforcement emergency  response,  security,  traffic  control,  search  and  rescue  (SAR),  and  other  public  utility duties,  expanding  the  presence  of  Leonardo  in  China  for  law  enforceenforcem  roles.  The  Company  has already  delivered  to Chinese  operators  more  than  20  aircraft  of  various  models  for  this  task  to  date, including  9  AW139s,  confirming  itself  as  the  law  enforcement  market  leader  in China.

These  orders  follow  an  earlier  contract  announcement  made  at  Heli-Expo  2018  with  Sino-US  of China,  for  26  aircraft  across AW119Kx,  AW109  Trekker,  and  AW139  models.

 Roma, 1 de marzo de 2018 - Leonardo anunció hoy en la Heli-Expo de Las Vegas nuevos encargos de compra para helicópteros. Un total de 17 aeronaves, valoradas en casi 140 millones de euros, para varios clientes en diferentes países y para una amplia gama de aplicaciones comerciales y servicios públicos.

 Los contratos incluyen una mezcla de AW119Kx monomotor, AW109 GrandNew y AW109 trekker light twins, AW169 light-intermediate, AW139 intermediate y AW189 super medium class, lo que confirma la sólida competitividad de la moderna cartera de productos de la compañía.  

 Se han vendido un total de siete helicópteros configurados EMS (Emergency Medical Service) para operar en Europa, incluidos cuatro AW169 y tres AW139.

 Un AW169, en particular, ha sido adquirido por Specialist Aviation Services (SAS) en el Reino Unido, que ya ha recibido siete aeronaves y planea elevar la flota total de AW169 a 12 en el futuro.

 Desde entonces, el éxito de AW169 en el mercado offshore de parques eólicos en el Mar del Norte ha crecido aún más, con pedidos realizados por otros operadores europeos.

 El crecimiento en el mercado del transporte marítimo se logró con la venta de un AW139 adicional, más una opción, a Travira Air en Indonesia. Este es el cuarto helicóptero de este tipo vendido al operador en el país del sudeste asiático.

 En el Reino Unido, Sloane Helicopters, distribuidor oficial de helicópteros Leonardo con más de 75 unidades vendidas en el Reino Unido e Irlanda, realizó un pedido de un AW109 GrandNew VIP y un AW109 Trekker. Sloane se convierte en el primer cliente del AW109 Trekker recientemente certificado por la EASA en el norte de Europa, tras el éxito del mercado internacional para el nuevo modelo, que hasta ahora ha registrado pedidos superiores a 40 unidades.  

 Otro AW109 GrandNew ha sido encargado por el distribuidor oficial japonés Kaigai Aviotech. Un nuevo AW139 se utilizará para operaciones de transporte en España, en Argentina Flight Express realizó un pedido de un AW119Kx y un AW169 en configuración VIP/Corporativo.  

Leonardo no tiene rival en el mercado global VIP/Corporativo, con una participación del 50% en el segmento multimotor.  

 Mitsui Bussan Aerospace (Japón) y Leonardo han firmado una renovación del Acuerdo de Distribución para los próximos tres años, éste cubre los modelos AW169, AW139 y AW189, que también incluye un pedido de otro helicóptero super-medio AW189. Además, los socios también han firmado la renovación del Acuerdo de pedido básico para un inventario cada vez mayor de repuestos para fortalecer aún más los servicios de atención al cliente en Japón. 

 Finalmente, el Servicio Municipal de Seguridad Pública de Tianjin eligió el AW139 para dar respuesta a emergencias policiales, seguridad, control de tráfico, búsqueda y rescate (SAR) y otras tareas de servicio público, ampliando la presencia de Leonardo en China para misiones de carácter policial. La compañía ya entregó a los operadores chinos más de 20 helicópteros de diferentes modelos para estas tareas hasta la fecha, incluidos nueve AW139, confirmándo al fabricante Leonardo como líder del mercado en misiones de aplicación de la ley en China. 

 Estas órdenes de compra siguen el anunciado contrato anterior realizado en la Heli-Expo 2018 con China, para 26 helicópteros de los modelos AW119Kx, AW109 Trekker y AW139.
