Coast Guard rescues hiker from sea cliff in Patricks Point State Park

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif — The Coast Guard rescued a 22-year-old man who fell to the base of a sea cliff while hiking in Patrick's Point State Park in Trinidad, California, Thursday.

California State Parks rangers notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay of a stranded hiker near the base of a sea cliff in Patrick's Point State Park, around 6:45 p.m.

Sector Humboldt Bay launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay.

Once on scene, the aircrew located the hiker near the base of a cliff and lowered a rescue swimmer, who hoisted the stranded man into the helicopter.

The hiker was transferred to Arcata Mad River Ambulance Services. There were no reports of injuries.

“This case was an excellent example of the interoperability among first response agencies here in Humboldt County,” said Cmdr. Brendan Hilleary, chief of response at Sector​ Humboldt Bay.​ “I’m very thankful​ that we were able to support our state parks partners and bring this hiker safely back to his family."

CLEARWATER, Fla.​ —​ The Coast Guard rescued four people Saturday after their 26-foot boat capsized 35 miles west of Homosassa.​

Rescued were​ Inverness natives Brittany Thompson, 34, and Brian Thompson, 35. Also rescued were Joanna Fraser, 42, and Lincoln Fraser, 44.

At 11:29 a.m. Coast Guard Seventh District watchstanders received a call from the International Emergency Rescue Coordination Center reporting a personal locator beaconhad been activated.​

An Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched and located​ four people in the water without life jackets clinging to their overturned boat. The helicopter crew hoisted the boaters and transported them to the air station where EMS awaited.​

A 27-foot Utility Boat-Medium boat crew from Coast Guard Station Yankeetown and the crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Pelican (WPB-87327) were also launched to assist.

Coast Guard rescues 2 from disabled vessel 20 miles southwest of Bahamas

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued two people from a disabled vessel Wednesday approximately 20 miles southwest of Freeport, Bahamas.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders received an emergency position indicating radio beacon alert from a vessel southwest of the Bahamas. Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered to the scene to assist. The helicopter crew hoisted the two people from the sailing vessel Mavi, and will transfer them to Palm Beach International Airport.

"The possession and proper utilization of an EPIRB was crucial to the success of this rescue mission," said Lt. Patrick Leavitt, chief duty officer at Coast Guard 7th District.​ "We recommend​ all boaters have a registered EPIRB, and know where all their equipment is in case of an emergency."

Coast Guard medevacs injured man from vessel

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard conducted an emergency medical evacuation of an injured man from a vessel near the Chandeleur Islands in Louisiana, on Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Command Center watchstanders received a notification at 8:23 a.m. of a 45-year-old man who sustained a serious leg injury aboard the commercial fishing vessel Miss Kimberly II.

Watchstanders at Sector New Orleans diverted a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin aircrew at 9:10 a.m. The aircrew arrived on scene at 9:20 a.m. and hoisted the man.

The aircrew transported the man in stable condition back to Air Station New Orleans where local EMS took him to a local hospital.​
