Coast Guard Aircrew Rescues Man 100 Miles Off Oregon Coast

WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated an ill fisherman from a commercial fishing vessel 100 miles off of Pacific City, Oregon, Tuesday morning.

An aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sector Columbia River safely hoisted the 37-year-old male, who reportedly experienced difficulty breathing and numbness in extremities, and transferred him to MEDIX paramedics at the sector’s base.

Sector Columbia River watchstanders overheard a radio transmission calling for medical assistance from the vessel Zena D for one of its passengers at 4:42 a.m. After consulting with the flight surgeon, a medevac was recommended, and a Jayhawk aircrew was launched. The aircrew arrived on scene at 7:15 a.m. and conducted the hoist and transferred the patient at 8:15 a.m.

The condition of the fisherman is unknown at this time. The paramedics transported the fisherman to Columbia Memorial Hospital for higher-level medical care.

The on scene sea and weather conditions included 5-foot seas and light wind.

WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated an ill fisherman off a charter vessel 45 miles off the northern Oregon Coast, Sunday afternoon.

An aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk from Sector Columbia River safely hoisted the 28-year-old male, who reportedly experienced a rapid heart rate, and transferred him to MEDIX paramedics at the sector’s base.

Sector Columbia River watchstanders received a medical evaluation request from the captain of the vessel Ultra for one of his passengers at 12:20 p.m. After consulting with the flight surgeon, a medevac was recommended, and a Jayhawk aircrew was launched. The aircrew arrived on scene at 1:20 p.m. and conducted the hoist.

The transferred the patient at 2:22 p.m. The condition of the fisherman is unknown at this time. The paramedics transported the fisherman to Columbia Memorial Hospital for higher-level medical care.

The on scene sea and weather conditions included 6-foot seas and 20 mph winds.

Coast Guard rescues 5 kayakers near Cape Disappointment State Park

WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued three children and two adults who capsized while kayaking near Waikiki Beach in Cape Disappointment State Park in, Ilwaco, Washington, Wednesday afternoon.

All five individuals, who were wearing lifejackets, were safely rescued and transported to Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, and were transferred to emergency medical services for further care at Ocean Beach Hospital.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Columbia River command center received a relay call from Pacific County 911 dispatch reporting at least one person in the water. The watchstanders directed the launch of rescue crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sector Columbia River, and a 29-foot Response Boat-Small II from Station Cape Disappointment.

All five persons were out of the water and delivered to EMS by 3:17 p.m. The boat crew aboard the rescue boat rescued two children and two adults and the Jayhawk aircrew rescued one child.

On scene at Waikiki Beach there were reported two-foot swells and the water temperature was 58 degrees.

The conditions of all five individuals are unknown at this time, but they were in stable condition with no visual injuries when they were transferred to EMS.

Coast Guard rescues injured hiker on Mount St. Helens, Washington

SEATTLE -- A Coast Guard aircrew rescued a 32-year-old woman on Mount Saint Helens who had been injured while hiking Saturday afternoon.

The woman was airlifted to Oregon Health Science University Hospital in Portland, where she is being treated for lacerations and a possible broken hip.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s department deputies contacted Coast Guard Sector Columbia River Command Center personnel at approximately 1 p.m. requesting helicopter rescue assistance.

Sector Columbia River dispatched the aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, who arrived on the scene shortly after.

With assistance from the Skamania County Volcano Rescue Team, the crew located the hiker on the south-facing slope of the mountain at approximately 6,000 feet. The rescue personnel were able to stabilize the woman and the aircrew hoisted her safely off the mountain.

Coast Guard Aircrew Rescues Man at Hug Point

The man became stranded because of an incoming high tide and then tried to climb to safety.

WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a hiker stranded on a cliffside near Hug Point on the Oregon Coast, Monday evening.

An aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sector Columbia River successfully hoisted the hiker from 100-feet up the cliffside and transported him to sector’s base with no injuries reported.

Watchstanders at the sector’s command center received a request for assistance from Seaside dispatch with the report of the stranded hiker at 4:58 p.m. The aircrew arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m. and completed the hoist at 5:45 p.m.

This was the fifth hiker in the Pacific Northwest to be rescued by the Coast Guard, Monday, after they all became stranded by a high tide. The Coast Guard reminds all beachgoers and hikers to be aware of the times that the tides change. Open and accessible areas can quickly close and cause hikers to become stranded.

Coast Guard rescues 2 off of sailing vessel 180 miles west of Grays Harbor, Wash.

WARRENTON, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a husband and wife off a sailing vessel 180 miles off the coast of Grays Harbor, Washington, Saturday morning.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew, from Sector Columbia River, tracked the sailing vessel’s electronic position indicating radio beacon and safely hoisted the couple before transporting them to the sector’s base in Warrenton.

The Coast Guard District 13 Command Center in Seattle received an EPIRB alert at 5:46 a.m. from the 46-foot sailing vessel Kelaerin. The sailors were reportedly transiting between Hawaii and Bellingham, Washington, when they ran into rough weather and seas.

The helicopter aircrew and a crew aboard a C-27 Spartan aircraft from Air Station Sacramento were launched to assist. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 9:33 a.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer to assess the situation. The sailing vessel wasn’t actively taking on water but seawater had washed aboard. The aircrew conducted the hoist at the request of the vessel owners because of health concerns.

The rescue helicopter landed at Sector Columbia River at 11:50 a.m. and transferred patient care to awaiting emergency medical services who treated the couple for symptoms related to hypothermia.

A marine information broadcast is being sent out to notify vessel traffic of the adrift sailing vessel. The attempted salvage of the vessel will be at the owners discretion.
