Coast Guard medevacs 4 to Florida after boat explosion in Exuma, Bahamas

Emergency medical services meet an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Clearwater, Florida, at the air station, June 30, 2018. The Hercules crew, with medical personnel aboard, medevaced four Americans after an explosion on a boat in Exuma. 


CLEARWATER, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard assisted the Royal Bahamas Police Force Saturday, medevacing four American citizens to Florida after an explosion on a boat near Exuma, Bahamas.

At 11:06 a.m. Coast Guard Seventh District watchstanders received a call from the Royal Bahamas Police Force requesting assistance after boaters suffered from various injuries.

An HC-130 Hercules airplane crew with two medical personnel from Air Station Clearwater was launched, landed in Exuma, and transported the boaters to the air station where emergency medical services awaited.


The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Exuma branch of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Coast Guard searches for man overboard 100 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a 55 year-old man who reportedly fell overboard approximately 100 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana, Monday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a communications relay from the captain of the fishing vessel Captain Edwin at approximately 3 a.m. reporting that a crewmember had fallen overboard off a nearby fishing vessel, the Captain Kent, while it was at anchor. It was also reported that the man was not wearing a life jacket.

Involved in the search are:
  • A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew
  • A Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Jacob Poroo, a fast response cutter crew from Pascagoula, Mississippi
