Coast Guard medevacs 44-year-old man near Long Beach, N.Y.

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 44-year-old man suffering from abdominal pains near Long Beach, New York, Friday evening.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard New York command center received notification at approximately 10:30 p.m., stating the crewmember needed medical attention aboard the 600-foot Greek-flagged tanker Minerva Grace.

The command center watchstanders briefed the flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene and safely hoisted the crewmember and transported him to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The man was then transferred to Jamaica Hospital in Queens, N.Y., by EMS.

The man’s condition is currently unknown.
