Coast Guard rescues 2 from water near Fulton, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard rescued two boaters from the water after their vessel sank near Fulton, Texas, Friday.

Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a report of two boaters in the water near Channel Marker 1, approximately one mile east of Fulton Harbor, after their 39-foot vessel reportedly struck a underwater pipe, took on water and sank.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, and launched a Station Port Aransas Response Boat-Small boat crew and an Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew.

Fulton Police Department and Texas General Land Office crews also responded to the scene.

The two boaters were recovered by the Station Port Aransas boat crew and transferred to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Fulton Harbor, where they were reported in stable condition.

One boater was wearing a life jacket, while the second did not have a life jacket on, when they entered the water.

The Coast Guard recommends all boaters wear life jackets while on the water. All personal flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved, in serviceable condition, readily accessible, and of the appropriate size for the intended user.
